Ballet Master Class with ABT Ballet Mistress Nancy Raffa

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Nancy Raffa received her early training with Madame Gabriella Darvash. In 1980, she became the youngest and first American female to win the Gold Medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition in Switzerland. The same year, Raffa joined Makarova and Company on Broadway and, at age 16, became a member of the corps de ballet of American Ballet Theatre. She joined Ballet de Santiago in 1985 as a principal dancer and was also a principal dancer at Ballet National Française de Nancy. In 1992, she became a principal dancer with Miami City Ballet.

Raffa began her teaching career in Miami at the New World School of the Arts. In 1994, she joined the staff of the Miami City Ballet School, becoming the coordinator for the School’s summer intensive program and Ballet for Young People program. Among her many awards, Raffa was twice awarded a special teacher’s recognition from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts and won a grant from the United States Information Services to act as a cultural ambassador and teacher for the company and school in Honduras.

Raffa holds an Ace certification in exercise physiology and graduated magna cum laude in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. Thomas University.

Raffa was appointed ABT Ballet Mistress in June 2007.

Class is open to Intermediate/Advanced level dancers (ABS Levels 4 and 5). (The 4:45 p.m. Ballet 4 class will not take place).
Fee of $35 for the class.

Hands on Dance

Come enjoy a free event with ballet-themed crafts and a chance for children to dress up in tutus, ballet costumes and pointe shoes, along with a performance by Anaheim Ballet School students, and free mini dance classes. Master Class with Hope Boykin, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater

Hope Boykin was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina and was a three-time recipient of the American Dance Festival’s Young Tuition Scholarship. She attended Howard University in Washington, DC., when she felt a call to move to New York City to study at The Ailey School.  Hope worked as assistant to choreographers Milton Myers and the late Talley Beatty, was an original member of Complexionsand danced many years with Philadanco, The Philadelphia Dance Company. Hope joined The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2000, where she continues to perform her duties as a dancer as well as her work as an educator, mentor, speaker, and choreographer.  Find out more about Hope at

Adam Blyde trained at The Royal Ballet School, graduating in 2001. He has appeared with The Royal Ballet and joined the Scottish Ballet in 2003, where he was promoted to Principal in 2008. ABS Summer Intensive Programs Audition


Learn the Anaheim Ballet technique during AB School’s Summer Programs!

The 2018 summer programs include a four-week Summer Intensive for intermediate and advanced students, as well as a one-week Junior Intensive for younger intermediate students.

AB School’s four-week Summer Intensive focuses on ballet technique along with supplemental classes in such styles as jazz, modern, musical theater, hip-hop and voice and acting for dancers. The session-end performance will feature all students in a staging of a work from classical ballet repertory, student choreography, and other dance styles studied during the program.

AB School’s Junior Intensive offers a full slate of ballet classes, in a one-week timeframe. An excellent preparatory program and introduction to intensive training for younger ballet students. 

Program Dates and Ages:

Junior Intensive: June 25 – 30; 9-12 years old; intermediate level (en pointe not required)

Summer Intensive: June 25 – July 21; 10-20 years old; intermediate and advanced levels (en pointe required)

Ballet Master Class with Luc Louis de Lairesse

Luc Louis de Lairesse, Belgian-Flemish born, has more than four decades in dance, (as a first soloist, ballet master, choreographer with leading international companies and schools American Ballet Theatre, Bejart, most national opera companies and their schools in Europe, the USA, South America, Japan, Korea, etc.) I wish to pass on ancient wisdom and knowledge (revisited) for the future generations to develop into decent human beings using art for the better of the society and all involved.

Class is open to Intermediate/Advanced level dancers (ABS Levels 4+). (The 6 p.m. Ballet 5 class will not take place).
Fee of $35 for the class.
