Anaheim Ballet School's
Summer Intensive 2012

Summer Dance Celebration:
July 9 - August 4, 2012

AB's four-week intensive focuses on ballet technique along with classes in such styles as jazz, modern, musical theater, hip-hop and voice and acting for dancers. Students also have the opportunity to choreograph and perform in a final showcase. The session-end performance will feature all students performing in a work from classical ballet repertory as well as other styles studied during the session.

General Program Information:


Audition Required. Auditions are by DVD or by attending a class with either of the directors. Students wishing to audition in person need to contact Anaheim Ballet School in advance to make such arrangements. DVDs must demonstrate a selection of pointe work (ladies), adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro, air tours (gentlemen), and grand allegro. The DVD should not exceed fifteen minutes.

Classes: ballet, character, hip hop, jazz, modern, partnering, men's classes, pointe, variations, showcase performance and more...

Ages: 10-20

Levels: Intermediate, Advanced [Female dancers are required to be on pointe]

Guest Faculty to Include: ABT Ballet Master Susan Jones; Former Bolshoi Ballet Soloist Alexander Greschenko; Chapman University's Dean of College of Performing Arts Dale Merrill; and more to be announced.
Student Information

Class Schedule:
Students will take classes Monday-Saturday. On Monday through Friday, ballet class will begin at 10:30am, followed by a specialty class or lecture at 12:00pm (jazz, tap, hiphop, acting coach, etc). From 1pm-2pm is lunch at AB (Students may only leave AB for lunch with prior written consent from parent). 2pm-approx 4:30 is rehearsal (for final performance ballet piece). From 4:45-evening, students will join AB School's normal class schedule. This means that dancers may finish classes between 6:00-8:45pm each night depending on their level and the specific class schedule for that day. Saturday classes include ballet, jazz, and partnering and will run from approximately 10:00am-1pm. In addition, students (in small groups) will choreograph their own piece to submit for inclusion in the final performance show.

Travel:
Anaheim Ballet is easily accessible from the Orange County John Wayne Airport (SNA). Please make every effort to arrange arrivals and departures from Orange County. If unable to secure flights to John Wayne Airport, arrival and departure should be arranged from Long Beach Airport (LGB) or from the Los Angeles Airport (LAX). Please note on your application if transportation to and from the airport will be necessary.

Location:
Anaheim Ballet is located in an internationally favored vacation area that has many lovely accommodations. Lodging at local hotels provides easy access to the Anaheim Ballet studios. Parents wishing to join their children may request information for lodging from the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau at (714) 765-8888. Anaheim Ballet is located near the Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Ice.

Field Trips:
Optional group activities will include a trip to Disneyland (The Happiest Place on Earth) for an additional $69. Students under 13 will have a chaperone with them at all times at Disney. Additional no or low-cost social events may be available, please plan ahead accordingly (for example, beach bonfire or pool party).


Supervision:
Supervision will include attention to ensuring that each participant receives the most from their experience by forming new friendships and gaining positive feelings of accomplishment and productivity.

Dress Code:

Ballet:
Ladies: Black, pink, white leotards, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, pink pointe shoes [if already on pointe], black, pink or white chiffon skirts are optional. Hair must be secured in ballet-style. Free style dressing is allowed during rehearsal periods at the discretion of the instructor. No jewelry may be worn.
Gentleman: White or black snug fitting T-shirts, black tights, black or white ballet shoes with coordinating socks. Free style dressing is allowed during rehearsal at the discretion of the instructor.

Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Character Dance, Modern, Musical Theater & Performance
Free style choice of leotards, tights, and T-shirts (no logos please) for contemporary dance styles. Bright plain colored T-shirts for performance. Dancers will also need black jazz shoes, sneakers, character shoes, tap shoes (character shoes may be used in place of tap shoes), black jazz pants, black class skirt for ladies, and a pair of denim/jean pants.

Stage Make-up:
Neutral foundation (base), neutral powder (finish), earth-toned dark brown eye shadow, black eye liner, black mascara, earth-toned natural powder blush, earth-toned natural lipstick, earth-toned natural lip liner, white eye shadow, light brown eyebrow pencil (unless very dark brows), gray/brown contour powder. Brushes: large powder, medium blush, small eye shadow assortment.

Street Wear:
Daily casual wear to and from Anaheim Ballet, warm jacket [evenings get cool], optional bathing suit.

Incidentals:
Students may find it helpful to bring funds for occasional movie outings or similar events, and funds for any personal purchases.
